How the BigQuery pricing model differs from Snowflake.
Fixed warehouse sizes
Snowflake warehouses come in fixed sizes, and each step up doubles the credit rate. Warehouses also keep billing until auto-suspend kicks in. BigQuery allocates slots to match query demand, so you are not paying for an idle warehouse.
Concurrency without extra clusters
When dashboard load spikes, multi-cluster warehouses add clusters, and each extra cluster burns credits. BigQuery shares slots across concurrent queries, and BI Engine caches frequent dashboard queries in memory.
Open table formats
Snowflake stores data in its own format. BigLake lets BigQuery query and govern open formats such as Apache Iceberg, Parquet and Delta Lake directly in Cloud Storage, which keeps your data portable.
AI inside the warehouse
BigQuery connects directly to Vertex AI and Gemini models, so your team can run vector search, embeddings and generative AI functions inside SQL without moving data.

How the 20% guarantee works
Three steps from assessment to cutover.
Read-only assessment
You grant read-only access to your Snowflake ACCOUNT_USAGE views. We analyse query history, warehouse usage and credit consumption to estimate your BigQuery cost, without touching production tables or customer data. Google Cloud co-funds the assessment for qualifying workloads.
SQL translation and parallel run
We translate your Snowflake SQL, stored procedures, dbt models and UDFs with the BigQuery Migration Service, then run BigQuery in parallel with Snowflake to confirm the results match before cutover.
Cutover, backed by the guarantee
Our data architects run the cutover in a scheduled maintenance window. If your annualised data platform run-rate is not reduced by at least 20%, measured 30 days after go-live against the agreed baseline, Aviato pays AUD $50,000.

How can Aviato guarantee a 20% cost reduction?
BigQuery bills for the compute your queries use, without idle warehouse time or extra clusters for concurrency. We only offer the guarantee once our read-only assessment shows your workload qualifies, and Aviato confirms eligibility in writing before the guarantee applies.
Will our day-to-day analytics or production reporting be interrupted during migration?
No. BigQuery runs in parallel with your existing Snowflake environment. Your analysts, dashboards and data teams stay on Snowflake until every pipeline, query result and dashboard has been validated on BigQuery.
How do you handle our existing dbt models, Airflow DAGs, and ETL pipelines?
The BigQuery Migration Service automates much of the translation of Snowflake SQL, stored procedures and transformations, and we fix the remainder by hand. For dbt, moving from the dbt-snowflake adapter to dbt-bigquery is a well understood process. Airflow, Dagster and Fivetran all have native BigQuery connectors.
What access do you require for the initial savings assessment?
Read-only access to your Snowflake ACCOUNT_USAGE metadata views: query history, warehouse events and storage metrics. We never access production tables, customer databases or personal data.
Is Google Cloud migration co-funding available for our project?
